Help us launch SAHFA-Congo!

In our Autumn 2020 newsletter we explained how SAHFA-Congo has been founded in September to improve the health and wellbeing of rural women and girls in Congo-Kinshasa.

Helping girls and mothers to survive pregnancy and childbirth is what links them to SAHFA’s project JamboMama!, smartly connecting mothers to health care providers, in order to reduce maternal (and infant) death and disability.

Access to appropriate care can be facilitated and made more effective with modern communication tools such as a smartphone. Women and girls should be helped to acquire digital literacy to improve their knowledge and decision making in all fields, but in particular their health needs during pregnancy, childbirth and post-partum.

SAHFA-Congo is laying the groundwork for a bottom-up approach in Itere-Mbang, in the province of Bandundu. The impact of the nutritional, reproductive, maternal and newborn services that can be provided from that health facility will be reinforced by the introduction of the JamboMama! app. But first the ground has to be prepared for it in a number of ways.

Suitable premises, safe, properly equipped, accessible, well staffed and managed, where girls and women experience respectful, competent care and support. First of all to save mothers and babies’ lives, but also to improve overall reproductive health literacy.

SAHFA appeals to you to help us collect 10.000 Euros before 30 January 2021.

  • 7000 Euros will be for the finalisation of the Health Centre in Kalo and the starting up of reproductive, maternal and new-born care services there.
  • 3000 Euros for the development of a JamboMama! app especially for Congo, in French.
