The rebuilding of our app is in full swing. A company got the original Tanzanian app functioning. The old version is the model from which it is being rebuilt in updated coding and software.
The Nigerian app is also progressing. Slightly different from the JamboMama! app for East and Central Africa, it reaches out to the millions of women and girls with poor access to pregnancy information and care leading to high mortality and morbidity of both mother and child in Nigeria.
The app must be so attractive, that even women new to a smartphone can open the app and play with it – with some help. The information and advice remain strictly functional. The app must be a guide to take care of your pregnant self and prepare for motherhood in a positive way. Recognise danger signs, monitor how it goes without getting obsessed. It has attractive features to stimulate the users’ curiosity so they’ll find something new or different each time they open it, while the core information and schedule for check-ups remain always available.
Though difficult to implement, for sustainability African IT engineers must be involved in the app development so that its local care and maintenance and further development are guaranteed. The IT part of our action being a long-term challenge, it is financed in large part by the founders.
